Unknown Soldier (2007) reflects upon the absurdity of war, often associated with an heroic and mystified image of male strength and power. A soldier in full uniform is trapped in an endless choreography of absurd movements. The performer, a professional trampolinist, is exposed to the frantic rhythm of a strobe light and embodies an individual far removed from traditional male virtues: helpless, vulnerable, lost. Taking the title of the single-channel video, Rosefeldt refers to the widespread stone monuments dedicated to unknown soldiers.
